Preparing for the Essential Competencies Interview
During this interview, our Recruiting team members will look for evidence in your answers that show you have the essential competencies to become a police officer.
Competency-Based Questions
Interviewers will ask you to provide a situation from the past two years demonstrating the below competencies. As you prepare, be sure you have one or two good examples for each competency that you can easily recall.

The ability to adapt your approach in a variety of situations.
Self-Assessment
The ability to evaluate your own actions, attitudes and performance.
Relationship Building
The ability to develop and maintain a network of contacts, both inside and outside the police service.

The ability to work effectively with a broad cross-section of the community representing diverse backgrounds, cultures and socioeconomic circumstances.
Self-Control
The ability to control your emotions and restrain negative actions when provoked or when working under stressful conditions.
